WJS Strategic Plan for 2009

Our plan this year focuses on five key areas: Service Quality, Governance, Marketing, Information Technology and Financial Stability. Within each of these strategic priorities, we have defined Results, Strategies and Actions to move us forward.

As examples, we acknowledge Service Quality as a priority, and recognize the critical importance of developing new services and competencies to deliver those services.  We’ll continue to focus on human resources, and reinforce initiatives that create a healthy workforce who can, in turn, more capably support the individuals in our service.

We're improving the “central nervous system” of WJS, our IT department to make our services more effective by reducing travel and improving paper management while improving communication. We'll also use technology such as video conferencing, human resource scheduling software, e-mail for all employees, deployment of alternative personal electronic devices, and implementation of case management software, to bring us together and make us more efficient.

Our CEO, Peter Farnden says, “I believe the changes to our Strategic Plan better prepare us for the uncertainty we face.  I invite you to join me in working toward a successful future.”

Take the Challenge!

It’s spring, and WJS employees are again accepting the 10,000 Steps Challenge!  It’s scheduled to begin June 1st, 2009 and employees across the country are signing up to improve their physical fitness and activity levels.  Every participant receives a “new, improved” WJS pedometer, and the names of those who complete the challenge will be entered in a draw to take place July 31, 2009.  One winner in each province will receive a $100.00 gift card toward a wellness/fitness activity, sports equipment/clothing retailer of their choice.

A special note of thanks goes out to the HR Focus Group, staff in the HR and benefits department, and NMT for their support in this endeavor.  Remember, organizational growth and positive developments are not possible without input from the people affected, so please continue to contribute your ideas!
