Moving Forward into a New Decade

The WJS strategic plan for 2010 continues to focus on five key areas:

  1. Service Quality“Give great service that builds strengths and prepares people for life.”

  2. Governance“Running WJS and making it the best place to work.”

  3. Marketing“People understand what we do and want to be a part of it.”

  4. Information Technology“Technology works to make everyone’s job easier, & everyone knows what’s going on.” and

  5. Financial Stability—“Using our resources effectively.”

As we move forward, we find ourselves looking for ways to simplify and clarify our processes and procedures to zero in on our mission, "strengthening people and communities with innovative, individualized services."

For example, staff seek ways to concentrate time, energy and resources on direct services, spending less time on duties that aren't specifically people-oriented.  Management looks for ways to value and retain staff because we know our excellent staff are the reason our programs are successful.  At the same time, we're reviewing and refining the “central nervous system” of WJS, our IT network, to decrease the time spent on administration and make our services more efficient and effective. We’re also implementing video conferencing, human resource scheduling software, e-mail for all employees, personal electronic communication devices, and case management software to bring us together and make our services better.

And finally,  we’re changing our look.  We decided it was time to update the face we present to the public and, as a result, we’ve adopted the new logo and corporate colours you see displayed on this website. We’ll soon have a date for our formal launch of our new logo, and we hope you’ll visit us at one of our programs or office during that time to see 'what’s new' at WJS.

RAK and Roll!!!

In November, 2009, the WJS HR department challenged employees to help reach a goal of 1,000 Random Acts of Kindness in the month of November!! The WJS 1,000 RAK Campaign demonstrated that WJS employees sure know how to promote the Christmas spirit, even when it’s not December.

According to the HR manager, it was clear that WJS has plenty of wonderful peers, mentors and role models throughout all the programs and divisions. Many, many staff reported the things they did in both their work and their private lives to keep the spirit of kindness going.  It was also obvious that staff appreciated the kindnesses bestowed upon them.  We’re proud to be able to say we work with these wonderful people!!  We thank everyone who participated in making a difference in the lives of others.
